Suitable for food use:

A cube of raw clay, showing the tears and textures of the earth.

A white wood ash glaze with darker inclusions has been applied over the rim, and run down the sides.

The piece is made by taking a block of rough textured, grogged clay and pushing it out from the inside so that the clay cracks and the texture opens up. As the piece expands, some tears form, which are sealed by adding additional layers on the inside and then pushing out more. Also, pieces of clay may be torn off the outside.

Note that this piece came out of the kiln with a small pinhole. This has been sealed from the inside to ensure that it is watertight. It is only visible if you peer into the empty pot.
